We had our four sweethearts Sunday afternoon and as always we made special memories with them. Colton and Grandad enjoyed horseback riding, I know the two of them really connect as Brownie and Belle carry them through the pasture.
Kinsey, Grace and Gabriel are also in love with Brownie, our big brown easy going quarter horse. They each had their turns on his back. Kinsey wants to be a rider, so she will be. Grace is 4 and too fearless on Brownie for me. Gabriel is 2 so Mike walks beside Brownie with one hand holding Gabe steady and Colton leads the horse, they are a three man team.
Kinsey and I had a little “Candy Crush” time waiting for Grace and Gabriel. She loves the game and at 6 plays better than many adults. Recently she picked up Mike’s Ipad and successfully completed a candy crush level he had been stuck on for weeks.
My little ones love to run, swing, slide, ride their scooters, kick balls, play hide and seek and just spend time with each other. Gabriel’s little legs have trouble keeping up with “the girls” but he tries. We eventually tried a game of croquet, more aptly named croquet chaos. Sometimes Kinsey and Grace and their strong wills cause (Colton’s word) drama. They love each other and always work it out.
Our plan for the evening was to build a fire and cook hot dogs and smores. Mike had connected our large yellow wagon to the four wheeler, our method of collecting firewood. Kinsey, Grace and Gabriel rode in the wagon and were wood spotters as we slowly drove through the pasture. Kinsey hopped out and always gathered enough wood to give both Gabriel and Grace a piece.
We returned to the back yard and loaded the fire pit with our finds.
Colton and Grandad took over and built a fire.
We gathered chairs and our cookout began. Hot dogs taste so much better outside, ours seemed exceptional. Smores are good no matter where you are but watching Grace and Gabriel enjoy their first (according to them) was priceless. Colton and Kinsey love smores, these were not their first.
Kinsey had the idea of campfire stories. She said we needed a flashlight and each of us would tell a story, it could be scary or a nice story. We were to hold the flashlight under our chin lighting our faces and of course she would tell the first one. Her story was told with great voice inflection and was a little spooky. Grace listened intently and seemed impressed with Kinsey’s extemporaneous story. Kinsey passed the flashlight to Grace and after a short hesitation Grace launched into her own story. It began with some similarities to Kinsey’s story (proof she had been listening) and ended with the story of David and Goliath. I have such smart grandchildren, maybe future writers.
It was a great way to spend a Sunday evening, love my little ones so much.
And then they came home……hopped up on sugar and bouncing around the house like that squirrel who ate all that candy on Over he Hedge, kind of bug eyed and crazy with energy!
Of course they had a blast!
Judy I always enjoy reading about your adventures and activities with your family, makes me think of growing up on the fame in Pa. Hope all is well, keep writing. Have not forgot about us visiting. Cindy
