Sky Full of Angels

I write when an experience is so special it must be remembered.  For me words help hold the memory in my heart and mind.

Mike and I traveled to a small cowboy church south of Ada, Oklahoma.  Our great nephew, Konnor, was baptized there.  We went to be witnesses to this important step in Konnor’s christian life.  I want to say how proud I am of Konnor and pray his faith is forever.

The church was small and very casual. Most people wore their jeans and boots, including the cowboy pastor.  Many drank coffee as they worshipped, toddlers wandered about carrying small toys and Konnor’s young brother, Cooper, enjoyed a chocolate covered donut during the service.  I do not list these observations as criticism, I never for one moment lost sight of the reason we gathered.  The Lord was surely present and His sweet spirit was felt by all who opened their hearts.

I knew Konnor’s mom, my niece Lindsay, was going to sing this Sunday.  I must admit that knowledge was incentive for me to rise and shine so early, cowboy church began at 9:30 a.m. and was an hour drive away from our home.  Lindsay has a beautiful voice she inherited (I like to think) from her grandmother, my mom. My mom loved to sing in church and I miss her voice in more ways than words can express.  I don’t remember the last time I heard my Lindsay stand in front of a group and sing. The song was “Sky Full of Angels”, if you are unfamiliar with it check out TaRanda Greene’s version on YouTube.   I was not prepared to be so moved, tears came and I was powerless to stop them.

It was a special morning, Konnor’s baptism and Lindsay’s beautiful voice. Surely a sky full of angels was watching over us.

It meant so much to us that you guys were there to share Konnor’s special day with us. I loved that you were there when I sang, it’s been a long time since I have. I am so thankful that god gave me the courage to do it again. Love you and thank you for being the best Aunt anyone could ever ask for.

    Judy,

Have enjoyed reading your posts. The days seem to blur when I don’t take time to jot down a few words to mark their passing. Glad you took time to share these.
